Digital X-Rays

While traditional x-rays are considered to be safe, the digital x-ray offers an even higher level of safety for patients.

Now Offering Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays are Faster, More Precise and SAFER

Here at American Dental of Fitzgerald, we believe that technology is a critical component of ensuring your oral health. We now offer digital x-rays. This innovative service aids in diagnosing oral health complications in a more rapid, precise manner.

Unlike traditional dental x-rays, digital x-rays capture an image through a specially-designed sensor that is placed in the mouth and transmits that image immediately onto an attached computer. The practitioner may then analyze and assess the image determine the best treatments.

If you are in search of highly advanced care in a state-of-the-art facility, you have found it!

The Advantages of Digital X-Rays

There are several distinct advantages associated with digital x-rays. These include the following:

  • Digital x-rays have been found to emit up to 90% less radiation during image capture than traditional dental x-rays. While traditional x-rays are considered to be safe, the digital x-ray offers an even higher level of safety for patients.
  • Digital x-rays product higher quality images. In the past, the standard imaging size associated with conventional dental x-rays often made it difficult to view all of the components of a patient’s mouth. Standard radiography utilized the methodology of “one size fits all”; however, the images produced by digital x-rays may now be enlarged, the color of the image may be adjusted, the contrast may be adjusted, and the brightness may be adjusted. All of these methods of customization allow dental practitioners to better see and assess the structure of the teeth and the surrounding bone.
  • The images produced by dental digital x-rays may be transferred via email, file sharing apps, and the cloud for immediate review by a specialist. The ability to quickly transfer records eliminates the need to mail images of a patient’s mouth, such as been the case with traditional dental x-rays. This saves time, money in terms of copying files, and the need to use the traditional mail system to obtain an evaluation and/or opinion from a specialist.
  • If you – the patient – require a copy of your dental x-rays for your records, the images produced from a digital x-ray may be printed out quickly and easily.
  • Digital dental x-rays are considered to be the environmentally-friendly choice. No space is required for a darkroom, no special chemicals are needed to develop the images, and there is no need to purchase items composed of plastics to store the films.

The Necessity of Digital X-Rays

There are many reasons why dental practitioners take digital dental x-rays. These include:

  • To analyze the mouth for areas of decay in regions that are not accessible to the eye during a visual examination.
  • To view the teeth and surrounding structures for serious oral health complications, such as cysts and the abnormal cells found with oral cancer.
  • To determine if bone loss is occurring. If so, this is a sign that periodontal disease is developing and the dental practitioner will work to develop a customized treatment plan.
  • Digital x-rays are utilized to help prepare the patient for the placement of implants and other types of dental work.
